Laura Furness joined the Appellate Defenders, Inc. staff in September 2005. A native of Los Angeles, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Humboldt State University. After spending a few years reporting local news on the radio in Eureka, California, she relocated to San Diego. Laura graduated from University of San Diego School of Law in 1997 with a J.D. and in 1998 with an LL.M. in International Law. After law school, Laura worked as a litigation attorney for the defense in general liability, business law and medical malpractice. In addition, she was a plaintiff’s attorney in employment law. She joined the A.D.I. panel in January 2005. Laura is married to panel attorney Bill Hook and shares a house, a large garden, a dog and a cat. Away from A.D.I., she enjoys gardening, hiking, reading and movies.
